Most annealing lamps you buy off the shelf do one thing: they blast uniform heat. That’s great for some, but if you’re deep in glass R&D, “uniform” is usually the problem. We do things differently. Instead of just giving you a lamp with the right dimensions, we play with the power density. It’s all about giving you actual control over the thermal gradient across your sample.
Mapping Out the Heat
Here is the thing: wattage and voltage tell you how much heat you’re getting, but they don’t tell you where it’s going. That’s where the magic happens. By changing how we wind the filament along the quartz tube, we can build “hot zones” and “cool zones” right into a single lamp. Imagine you’re working with a new glass compound. Maybe it needs a sudden, aggressive temperature spike followed by a slow, steady soak. A standard lamp just can’t do that. You need a custom power map. We tweak the ohms per millimeter to shift the energy exactly where it needs to hit.
The Trade-offs (The Honest Part)
We use high-purity quartz because, frankly, it’s the only way to handle the thermal shock without the whole thing cracking. And since we know you probably already have a rig set up, we offer a bunch of different connector footprints. It should just slide right in. But there’s a catch. When you cram a massive amount of wattage into a tiny section of the tube, you’re flirting with filament burnout. If your cooling isn’t dialed in, it’ll pop. Just make sure your airflow or water-cooling jacket can actually handle those localized heat spikes.
